Shane Drumgold SC commenced legal practise in the criminal law in 2002 and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2019.
Shane has broad criminal law expertise, with extensive experience both practising and teaching criminal law and evidence law, with significant experience conducting both jury trials and appeals.
Shane has appeared as lead counsel in a large number of the most serious criminal matters on the statute books, including murders, various conspiracy offences, sexual offences, and commercial drug matters, appearing in the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal and the High Court.
Over the past 22 years, Shane has held various positions including Public Defender in the Solomon Islands and various Senior Crown Prosecutor roles in Australia, and for the five years prior to coming to the private bar in 2024, he held the position of Director of Public Prosecution.
Shane currently also holds an appointment as an Associate Professor of Law and has more than 20 years’ experience as an academic, teaching and researching Criminal Law and Evidence Law. Shane is a Churchill Fellow in criminal law and restorative justice and is a PhD candidate on the subject of processes and accountability structures for Government Inquiries.
